Atticus is the type of guy who everyone seems to know when they're in a difficult position. Atticus, though only being in New Orleans for a few years, has gained a reputation within the city as someone who can get what anyone needs. Because of this, Atticus has a close group of friends that he is able to spend time with, and even more people around him who need things. This notoriety has caused Atticus to keep people at a distance and focus more on his work.
The closest people to Atticus know that he is so much more than the cold calculated vampire with more tricks up his sleeve that a magician. Those people know that he can be funny, that he can be very sweet and loving. Atticus can be particularly goofy and loving towards his closest family member Eve . The two of them often going to their late morning parties and dens of sin, but also spending time together watching sitcoms from the 70s that they both love in comfortable footy pajamas. There are very few people who he can feel comfortable around, so when he is able to get a person who he is comfortable with then he will do anything to protect and care for that person.
HISTORY
Born in 1818, Atticus was originally born as Bao Ling. The only son of two Chinese immigrants. Bao was raised to help his parents with their laundry business. They immigrated to London for a better life, but no one in the family was prepared for the amount of prejudice and racism that they would face. Their laundry was raided regularly by the police looking for opium dens and human trafficking. They would look for support from local gangs, but would have to pay extraordinary fees to keep the family safe. Bao grew up learning how to fight the local kids and dedicated himself to protecting his family. He went to English schools, and often had to deal with negative interactions with classmates. Bao got into so many fights at his school, that he was kicked out. Bao was about ten at the time and went to work for his parents full time.
When he was fifteen, Bao had to take control over his family's business and ensure that they were safe. He was known as a brawler and he was known for his iron fists. One of the local gangs approached him for his loyalty in exchange for their protecting his parent's business. He agreed. Bao became their muscle and would collect dues from other businesses. His parents were for the most part kept in the dark about what he was doing, but they also never questioned why there were no bricks being thrown through their windows anymore.
When Bao was about twenty, he was able to rise through the ranks until he was a trusted advisor. Another gang was starting to encroach on the main business of gun smuggling to local revolution groups. Bao was asked to travel to France to infiltrate and take back stolen guns. When Bao arrived in France, he was able to get into the group without too much issue.
Until he became an issue.
What the group in London did not know was that their rivals were vampires. When they discovered who Bao was, they captured him and kept him as a food supply. When Bao did not return to London at the arranged time, his group and his family assumed that he was killed during the trip. When his gang attacked the vampire lair, Bao was trapped and locked up covered in bites. The vampires kept him as a pet and a play thing, torturing him and trying to destroy him for nearly ten years. The final control they exerted over him was when they ignored his pleas for death and turned him into a vampire.
When he woke up with his new life, he was pledged to them. He could stay within the coven and benefit from the connections, the wealth and the status that they were able to offer him, or he could leave and starve in the streets. Against his better judgement, he stayed within the coven and learned how to be a vampire. They renamed him Atticus Caine to allow him to have a new life and become someone new. Atticus knew that returning to London was never an option, and he could never see his parents again. They morned their son's death and he couldn't explain why he wouldn't be aging with them.
Living in the coven was depraved nights, fanciful dinners, and scandals. He was starting to find it impossibly boring until he met Eve.
Eve.
The feral, starving, nearly deranged Eve.
She was starving in the tunnels and Atticus was able to bring her back to his home and care for her. Getting life back in the half dead half rabid vampiress was the type of change to his days that he needed. Atticus cared for Eve and was able to give her a life. When others in the coven would meet her, they would question Atticus about why he was doing what he was doing. What benefit did he get from it. Some even assumed that there was a benefit that he would want to gain from her. Atticus slit some throats for the assumptions due to the dishonor it would bring Eve. He cared for her like a sibling and felt a connection with her.
The two lived together through the years in France, Atticus spoiling her rotten and encouraging her to pursue dance. Atticus became involved in various businesses around Paris, earning wages to repay the coven for the comfort that they both lived in.
Over the years, the supernatural community "came out of the coffin" and Atticus knew it was time to leave Paris and go to the epicenter of them all. After a discussion with Eve about their goals, they decided to travel to New Orleans and open a club where she would be able to dance and Atticus would be able to continue catering to the sins and needs of the world.
