I hope you never lose your sense of wonder You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger Fridays were movie nights. It was an Anders tradition, dating back to her own grandmother, and Maggie would be damned if she would break it. There were times when she had chosen to go out with her friends instead of hunkering down with her parents and the latest blockbuster, and logically, she knew that Maddie would make the same choices soon. For now, however, her daughter still seemed at least somewhat interested in spending time with her, so Maggie stopped by the local pizza shop and picked up dinner. Movies nights, after all, were not the nights for salads; it was pig out in pj’s time. The transition to New Orleans had been…a little rough to say the least. She hadn’t exactly inspected the house before they moved in, and in the first month alone, the air conditioner had gone out, leaving them in the thick of August with nothing but fans and prayers. The attic had a leak and required a roof patch, which she was able to mostly charm out of a local roofer at cost. Everything else was at least livable or cosmetic, if she was really lucky. The problems of a whole new city, an actual pack, and putting her daughter in her senior year of high school were not easy adjustments, however. New Orleans was definitely not Houston. It felt decidedly older, and in Oak Hill, the ties to the past were stronger than she anticipated. She had made a joke about changing the name on the home from Dugas to Anders, and she thought that her welcome wagon would faint right on her porch. She took the hint and was settling into her place as the bastard branch of the Dugas line. She and Maddie had had their lives diverge as well. Maggie didn’t know Maddie’s new friends – she didn’t even really know if she had any. Oak Hill High School was a whole different world. There was something about knowing that the pearl-wearing PTA moms also grew claws and fangs that made Maggie uncomfortable. The whole of Oak Hill was a fenced-in area where the wolves could run. It was now nothing for her to see a smaller pack, usually teenagers, break out from the woods and run down the residential streets. No, New Orleans was definitely not Houston. But not everything had to change, hence the continued tradition of Friday Movie Nights. Pizzas in hand, Maggie pushed open the front door (gently, so as not to wrench the original doorknob off). ”Mad-dog, what kind of movie are you thinking about watching tonight?” she shouted into the house, tossing her keys into the bowl and depositing the pizzas on the dinner table. ”It’s finally getting cooler outside. What about a horror movie?” she continued, unsure of where her daughter was in the house.

- For you? Anything -
Tonight was the night. Friday night movie night, the one thing that never changed no matter where her mother and her lived. It was the one thing Margot and Maddie did together that not even the gates of hell could have stopped. Already, Madison was in her Pajama's, the cow ones. No, I don't mean they had little cows printed on them, no it was the full cow suite with the hood that had the horns on it and a little plush bell around the neck. Oh, and did I mention the little tail? Needless to say Friday was the one day Madison could sit on the couch with her mom and know everything would be fine.
Maddie already had a set of the original horror movies sitting out on the table. Creature of the black lagoon, Dracula -her mother and her liked to make fun of vampires while watching that one- and of course, the invisible man. But, she couldn't decided so she also had a few newer movies set out such as; IT -the original- and Halloween, after all it was that time of year. Maddie loved it! She couldn't wait to dress up and -hopefully- go partying with her new friends. Either way, it was going to be an adventure.
So far the new town was... odd. She wasn't used to being around other werewolves and the gated community thing wasn't her style. She loved the freedom of never being fenced in and she liked to think she got that from her mother. After all, her mother was her idle and had been her only mentor for.... ever since she could remember. Often times she wished there was someone else in the picture, someone she could rely on and that way her mother wouldn't be so lonely when Madison eventually left home but now... she wasn't even sure if she was... allowed? The whole Oak Hill community thing was weird to her. She wasn't used to it and it looked like most people stayed there for their entire lives. Madison couldn't imagine staying in one place for THAT long. She had plans! Big plans. Plans that involved not being in Oak Hill.
The House in Oak Hill was a whole other story too. Maddie could go on an entire rant about how she despised the old house smell. It was too strong and made her nose all stuffy. Often times that's why she left her bedroom window open -and, so she could sneak out to be with Honor whenever she'd come knocking-. And the Air conditioner. Don't even get her started. It was the worst month of her life. The heat... the humidity.... the BUGS from having to keep the windows open?! What. A. Nightmare. But all was well now, they finally had a suitably air conditioner, one that functioned.
The familiar call from her mother, 'MAD-DOG', a funny nickname Madison loved but absolutely forbade her mother from using in public. Not like it stopped Margot, but still.
"Waaaaaay Ahead of you, Mama!" She called from the kitchen, she was in there preparing the ice cream she planned to devour after having at least a few slices of that delicious smelling pizza. "I was thinking we could go old school today, get in the true spirit of Halloween! But if that didn't sound good I also put out IT and Halloween." She smiled, the tail on her PJ's swishing as her body moved. She loved these pajamas.

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger Sometimes the world was cruel. Sometimes it chewed up the best people and left them, in strips, along the shoreline, but sometimes, among the carnage there was a pearl. Maddie was, for her mother, that pearl. She was the shining example that the world, though cruel, also produced beauty. Margot had been so scared when the tiny baby was laid on her chest, but the second those instincts kicked in, she felt invincible where it concerned Maddie. She had no doubt that she could wrestle a bear, while in human form, if it meant protecting Maddie. She would go to the ends of the earth for her daughter and then further still. But the more Maddie grew, the more human the monsters became. Now it wasn’t bears Maggie was afraid of; it was boys. Or other little werewolf girls who run amuck just because she was the pack princess. The world was so much bigger now, so much scarier, and she couldn’t outright outlaw Maddie’s friends (she herself had once been a teenaged girl; she knew how that would end). The only thing she could do was beg for a few hours every Friday night for the two of them to sit on the couch, eat gross amounts of snacks, and watch movies together. Fridays were time for the girls – for her and her girl. And so when Maddie indicated that she was very much home and was wearing the most ridiculous pajamas Maggie had ever seen in her life, Maggie’s cold heart swelled a little. She dropped her purse and eyed the large bowl of ice cream Maddie was preparing. She would definitely eat her fill of that later. Thumbing through the movies Maddie had pre-selected, she chuckled a little bit. ”I swear, I saw most of these movie villains while I was picking up pizza,” she joked. Living among the others was something she was still getting used to. ”These sound perfect, Mads. I’ll go change while you set it up.” Instructions given, she disappeared for a bit before reappearing in the living room in much more comfortable clothes, without a stitch of makeup to be seen. Fridays were for comfort and nothing else. Comfort and family. ”So, how was school today?”

- For you? Anything -
Always the little mama's girl. Madison put all her trust in her mother and she knew her mother would never do anything to hurt her. Even if Maddie wasn't thrilled about the move, she was excited to learn more about her heritage and the world of the supernatural to its fullest. She knew that once she graduated she'd be put into the new Academy and there, well.... it would be something entirely new. For now, it was strange to go to school and have everyone look at her. Eyeing her and knowing what she truly was. For as long as she could remember she had to hide it from everyone but now she was in the spotlight.
Giving her mother the affirmative nod, she took the bowl of ice cream and the pizza box into the next room over where the T.V. was located. "I think we should start off with something that doesn't concern the actual world." She called, picking up 'The Invisible Man' and placing the D.V.D. into the player. The screen selection popped up almost instantly and she began to play it, knowing her mother wouldn't be long and that old movies like this one had a good selection of the credits at the start of the movie so Maggie wouldn't miss anything.
Maddie looked at her mom and smiled when she entered. Madison always admired how her mother looked. She was beautiful and proud and so when her mother took her make-up off it was something Madison enjoyed to see. It was just her mother, and that was it.
"Oh. You know, the usual." Madison began to answer the question, taking a quick bite of a slice of pizza, chewing it, swallowing it and then continuing on, "Got 92% on a pop quiz in science class so that was pretty exciting." Then she paused a second before continuing on, "All the normal kids keep giving me weird looks in the halls but I'm not the only one they look at like that. Things are weird now in schools because everyone is trying to figure out who is normal and who is super natural and since I'm in the thick of it and everyone knows werewolves live on the Hill, everyone knows I'm a werewolf."
Madison gave a slight shrug to her own statement and then laughed, "Some girl tried to bully me but then another girl told her I lived on the Hill and she freaked out, apologized and backed off. I think I could get used to people knowing." She then continued to eat her pizza, "How was work, mama?" She managed to get the words out without choking on her food.

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger ”That sounds perfect. I’ve had my fill of wolfmen for the day,” she called from the kitchen, suppressing a laugh. Maddie chose the movie and Maggie smiled as she heard the previews for the older film start. There were so many shitty things people could say about her, but not one of them they could say about her kid. Her innocent, kind, smart kid. How she was so lucky she would never know, but she would move heaven and earth and everything in between to keep Maddie smiling. If she could freeze time, she would a thousand times over. She returned to the living room with two stemless wine glasses and a pitches of sweet tea. “A 92, huh? Well, that’s a reason to celebrate.” They had other cups, but there was just something fun about drinking out of the special glasses without having a direct reason to. She eyed Maddie as she poured sweet tea into both glasses. "It must be nice not having to pretend to be human. You’re growing up in a very different world, Maddog.” She slid one of the glasses over to her daughter and held hers up in a cheer motion before taking a long drink. She sunk into the couch beside her daughter, taking a slice of pizza. She sighed. ”Same old, same old. Drew up some plans, had to redraw them. The works,” she said with a shrug. She ran a hand through her hair. ”They want to build a new greenhouse or something for the school.” Why? She had no idea. The Robespierres were full of ideas; not all of them were good. She kept her eyes on the screen, but her mouth twitched into a smile. ”So any new friends? Specifically some of the male variety?” she asked casually, looking to Maddie out the corner of her eye. She was in no way ready for Maddie to start dating, but she did like to tease her about it.

Maddie took up the stemless wine glass once her mother had finished pouring the sweet tea into it. She enjoyed drinking from these fancy glasses, it made her feel more like an adult and gave her and her mother a chance to be like the women on T.V. when they all gathered around a table with wine glasses, talking about the senseless dramas of their day to day lives. She loved it.
Putting the glass to her lips she then paused, a looked of revelation spread across her face. It hadn't sunk in yet, the fact that her mother and her didn't need to hide anymore. Madison wasn't exactly flaunting her genetics around town but it finally hit her that she could do that and no one would grab the pitch fork and torch. "Yeah... I guess I am." She agreed, the information soaking in finally as she took a swig of the tea. "That will still take some getting used to." She added, placing the glass back on the little coffee table they had dragged with them from Texas.
"A Green house?" Maddie questioned, eyebrow raised in amusement. "This school is going to be weird but at least you're getting paid to do it." Looking on the bright side was always Madison's specially. Well, that and bowls upon bowls of ice cream going missing.
Madison was caught off guard by the question, causing her cheeks to turn a soft rosy pink. "Mama!" She objected, giving her mother's arm a gentle nudge with her own elbow. "That's not funny!" she protested once again, crossing her arms over her chest in a defensive position as she tried to sink further into the couch cushions, praying that they might just grant her wish and swallow her whole. But sadly... she was still quite visible, her face only growing more and more red from the thought of boys.
Maddie had had a crush on a boy back in Texas but it was just a little fantasy. She'd only ever talked to him once and now, well, There was no hope for her now. "I don't even talk to any boys." She muttered, turning her face to the T.V. as the movie finally started. However, even though it had begun, her torment would not be put on hold. She knew her mother too well.
