PERSONALITY
ADVENTUROUS | FREE | FLIRTY Iola is not your stereotypical siren. Instead of being cold and closed off, she is the life of the party. She wants the spotlight on her. Though she doesn't remember her life before being a siren, she likes to imagine she was an affluent woman who threw outrageous parties all year round Great Gatsby style.
Socially, she is far better equipped than her 'brother' Orin. Iola is witty, talkative, and not one to back down from a verbal smackdown. She is proud of who she is, and will 100% get in your face about it. She's bold and completely unconcerned about what others think of her. Iola spent over a hundred years learning to love herself for what she is. She's grown proud of what others would think of her curse. She loves her life. She loves love. Iola is a woman very in tune with her emotions, and enjoys expressing them to the fullest.

HISTORY
Margaret Ann Richards' life was a short and tragic one. She was born on August 24, 1891, in Perth, Australia. She was always drawn to the wild side, and was a rather scandalous woman during her twenties. Relations with women, wearing trousers out in public, speaking out against sexist men. Margaret made a lot of enemies in her lively years.
In 1919, when Margaret was 28, she had finally pissed off the wrong person. A corrupt man running for political office - Margaret had made it her life mission to be certain he would never obtain the power he was vying for. After he had lost the election, he had used his corrupt ties to dispose of the woman who had crossed him.
In true mafia fashion, Margaret was kidnapped and taken out into the middle of the ocean. While unconscious, she was weighted, tied down, and dropped into the sea. It was the Fall of 1919 when Margaret Ann Richards died, and when Iola Hyde was born.
The first memory Iola had was knowing she should be alarmed that she was underwater, but very distinctly not being worried at all. She knew that she shouldn't be breathing, not like this. She knew she shouldn't look like this, shouldn't feel like this. After spending what felt like an eternity trying to free herself from her restraints, the lack of reaction she had to her fins was more worrisome than the actual appendages.
Swimming to shore took so much less effort than it should've. By the time the siren reached the shore she was completely ravenous. Giving in to her feral instinct, the woman snatched a sole sun-bather and ate to her hearts content. After the red drained from her mind, she realized what she had done. Instead of being disgusted, she was indifferent.
After spending time on the beach drying off, the woman realized that where her tail was, were two legs. She was much slower on these legs, but this method of travel would have to suffice for her to get the information she needed.
The woman spent the next few days, walking around city, trying to piece together what information she could of this civilization. Some people gave her weary looks as she passed them, but no one seemed to pay her much attention.Eventually she made her way into the City of Perth Library. The library seemed to have unlimited information at the woman's disposal. There was where the unknown siren took on the name Iola Hyde. Through books she learned as much as she could about society, and somewhere along the way, could pass as an acceptable human being.
Nearly six months after Iola came into being, she found a man appearing to be near her age washed up on the beach with a tail similar to hers. Iola couldn't explain the need in her being that told her she needed to look after and protect this man. She took him in to her residence -a small guest house to an affluent female private detective where Iola worked as a jack-of-all-trades.
The man's story seemed to be incredibly similar to Iola's. His first memory was waking up under water and inexplicable hunger. Their bond only seemed to grow the more time they spent together. Iola deemed him Orin Hyde, and the two became nigh inseparable. The two revered each other as siblings.
Once Perth had taught them everything it could, they moved to the next big city, and continued this rotation of learning and accumulating experiences from around the world. Occasionally their roads would diverge, but they always seemed to make it back to each other, even if they never really saw eye-to-eye.
Eventually, Orin ended up in New Orleans, Louisiana. After the outing of the supernatural community, it seemed to be a hub for their flavor of people. At the time, Iola wasn't done exploring the coasts of Croatia. It took her another year of swimming with the fish for her to make her way to NOLA, where Orin hooked her up with a job at his place of employment, The Rising Sun. Currently, Iola is working as a singer in the bar, and is feeding off of all of the attention it brings her.
