Joan has had to be a mom to so many children, some of them not even her own. Being a mother is engrained in her entire being. It comes out naturally, and she tends to have the habit of adopting stray people and taking care of them. She lives to sacrifice herself for others, whether its being the person that helps them carry their burden, or by literally offering her home to them… she’s constantly trying to help. Joan is a dreamer, and wants to make the world a better place, a little at a time. Her family is constantly growing, whether it’s because she got married again or because she’s just picked someone up, it tends to be fairly busy in her house.
That being said, she’s the kind of person who gives and gives and gives… and then gives some more, and refuses to take. If anything, she tends to over-extend herself to others.If anything, she tends to be tired, slightly tough to crack, but that’s just due to running herself until her tank is well past empty. The eye bags are almost a permanent feature. Real sexy, right? She’s a bit too old for most of the crowd, and with her failed marriages it’s not like she’s planning to find romance soon…
Personally, I’d really like it if she had a few patients that either kept coming back or have kept in touch throughout the years as she’s been a nurse for like 20+ years now. She’s also gone to high school here, so if there is any of the older crowd looking to know someone, here you go.
HISTORY
Joan was not the only child born to Dorothea and Arthur Morrison, born alongside twin Freddie, the twins were set for a bizarre life with names like Joan and Freddie. Inspired by rock n roll music of the time period, Arthur and Dorothea had named their children after Joan Jett and Freddie Mercury. Maybe it was because they didn’t have a lot, and the thought that these fantastic, glamorous people would somehow influence their children… who knows. Maybe they were just really high. Either way, Freddie and Joan became the only children the Morrisons had, and ultimately were each others’ best friend. With a name based off the famous Jett though, Joan wasn’t really set up for a life of dolls. Not to mention dolls were expensive and they weren’t really bringing in the most money on a factory worker’s and a house wife’s salary. Instead it was a lot of ball with dad, and a lot of hand me downs from older kids in the neighbourhood.
Joan though, she didn’t only want ball. She wanted to do her own sort of stuff. She liked drawing and reading books just as much as she liked “tossing around the old pig skin”. This is when she made what was probably the first true friend that was only her own. She tended to have a bit of an “attached-at-the-hip” relationship with her brother. So when she had a spare moment, she’d disappear off on her own. After a few times of doing that, she met him. He was much older, kind of weird that he wanted to talk to a kid, but that was probably her fault for initiating conversation and then pressuring him to answer her. Either way, friend!
The next time she would have a true friend of her own beside her brother, would be in high school when she’d meet what would eventually be her first ex husband. They started off as friends, the best of friends… it probably should have stayed that way. He was a lovely guy, super sweet but their marriage was doomed to fail. She got pregnant after a drunken night of being stupid at 15 years old, and would eventually give birth at sixteen. In that time, it was very much decided for her that she was going to get married once she graduated, and that until then, her parents would take care of the child so that she could finish school. It played out exactly as they said. She graduated, got married, went to school with their support and during this time ended up having another kid. She ended up getting a job at the hospital as a trauma nurse, which only helped to make her straining relationship with her husband more strained. They tried to save it with a third child, and it didn’t work. She was divorced shortly after the birth of her child.
Now this divorce was not hostile. In fact, she and her ex got on much better as co-parents that were friends than a couple. But she had only ever really known how to be in a relationship. It wasn’t long that she found comfort in another man, with two daughters of his own. Now the matriarch to five children, she was kind of an expert at the “caretaker” role. That relationship though, also did not last. This could splitting after almost a decade together as well. Not only did she help her own sons through the trials and tribulations of puberty, but she helped her daughters as well. When all was said and done, and she was single again, she managed to maintain a good relationship with her kids, but it isn’t quite the same. Now, in her fifties, she was the kind of mother to os many children, working a job with insane hours and just as lonely as ever before. Great.
